Cartoon Movement at IJF24!
We are very happy we'll be present at the International Journalism Festival 2024 in April in Perugia (Italy). For the second year in a row, CM editors Tjeerd Royaards and Emanuele Del Rosso will host a workshop on editorial cartoons. You can be there in person (the festival is free), but the workshop will also be livestreamed.
The workshop will take place on Thursday April 18 at 11am CET.
Ema and Tjeerd will also host the side event Cartoonists at work during the festival, drawing live at the festival bar and inviting festival attendants to draw with them.
Giving away the Huion Kamvas 13!
A couple of months ago we reviewed the Huion Kamvas 13 and last month we put out a call to give away the tablet to a person who could use it. We received dozens of emails, from Argentina to the Philippines, all from people who would put the tablet to good use.
After careful consideration, we have decided to give the tablet to Hungarian cartoonist Gabor Papai. Gabor is perhaps the most renowned cartoonist in Hungary, making a daily cartoon for Népszava, the last independent newspaper left in the country. We are proud that the tablet will be put to use to fight the authoritarian government of Victor Orban.
If you’d like to learn a bit more about Gabor and his work, we higly recommend you check out this blogpost and this video:
Cartoons for human rights
In 2018, we did a project together with the UN, creating cartoons about the importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As a kick-off for the Netherlands' three-year membership in the Human Rights Council, a re-issue of the booklet is now available, with a lot of updated cartoons to reflect more diversity. You can download it for free on our blog:
